Founders’ Day: Twenty Years on Coffeen Avenue

Founding families gathered on the front lawn Friday afternoon to mark Ridgemont’s twentieth anniversary. Six of the ten original founding families were present, joined by roughly forty alumni from the first seven graduating classes, current parents, faculty, and the school’s original architect, Michael G. Adair.

Founding trustee the Rev. Thomas E. Ballard read from remarks he delivered at the school’s first Convocation in September 2003, when 34 children first walked up the front steps. “We promised then that no child at this school would go unknown,” he said. “Look around. That promise is being kept.”

The afternoon concluded with the planting of a burr oak sapling near the front sign, a companion to the original oak planted in 2003 and now, at more than thirty feet tall, the tree in which the school’s Ravens like to nest.
